Victims’ Son Holds Triple Murder Suspect at Gunpoint Until Deputies Arrive

A North Carolina man, David Lever, 55, was arrested after the son of an elderly couple, victims in a series of shootings, held him at gunpoint until authorities arrived. The shooting spree occurred in Greenville, southeast of Raleigh, leaving three dead — Anthony Gribble, 80; Paula Gribble, 76; and retired university professor Enrique Reyes, 64.

Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance confirmed that Lever’s van was used in four separate shooting incidents on Friday. Lever’s home, along with his vehicle, was found to contain numerous firearms — at least 50 weapons were discovered inside the house, with even more in the van he drove during the attacks.

The shootings began at Reyes’ home, where he was found dead after being shot at 3:35 p.m. Authorities believe Lever then moved on to the Gribble residence, where their son reported his parents had been killed. The son, seeing Lever nearby, intervened and held him at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.

Lever has been charged with three counts of murder and is being held without bond. Authorities have not yet determined a clear motive, and investigations are ongoing to determine any potential connections between Lever and the victims.
