In a tragic case that shook the Las Vegas community, 19-year-old Angel Bello-Martinez has been sentenced to five to 12.5 years in prison for causing a fatal high-speed collision while driving under the influence.
The sentencing took place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Clark County District Court, presided over by Judge Eric Johnson. Initially appearing as a free man, Bello-Martinez was taken into custody immediately after the hearing, leaving his family distraught.
The collision, which occurred in March 2024 on Lake Mead Boulevard near Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard, claimed the life of 62-year-old Ann Rossotti and left her daughter, Sashiana Rossotti, with life-altering injuries. Police reported that Bello-Martinez was speeding and under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.
During the hearing, Bello-Martinez’s attorney, Nicholas Pitaro, requested a more lenient sentence of two to five years, citing the teen’s acceptance of responsibility and expressed remorse. However, Judge Johnson deemed the severity of the case warranted a harsher sentence.
Witnesses to the crash, including Brandi Mumford, described the devastating aftermath. “I felt really bad for the daughter because that could’ve been anybody,” Mumford shared shortly after the incident.
While Bello-Martinez pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving causing substantial bodily harm, the outcome highlights the gravity of impaired driving.
This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the irreversible consequences of driving under the influence, leaving families to grapple with their loss and the broader community to reflect on the importance of road safety.
