A man has been captured in connection to the tragic killing of a Wisconsin woman and two young girls, more than a week after the bodies were discovered in New Lisbon. Virgil Thew, 47, was arrested about 30 minutes after a witness reported a suspicious person in Elroy, a small community near New Lisbon.
Law enforcement had been actively searching for Thew since the Dec. 30 killings, with the FBI and federal marshals joining the effort to locate him.
Elizabeth Kolba, 33, and two girls aged 12 and 13 were found shot to death in their home in New Lisbon. Authorities say Thew, who knew the victims, has been charged with three counts of first-degree intentional homicide. No other details about the case have been released, and it remains unclear if Thew has retained legal representation.
Law enforcement credited the swift capture to community assistance, with authorities posting Thew’s name and photo on social media, asking for tips from the public. The arrest brings some relief to the community, which had been in shock following the killings.
The investigation is ongoing as officials work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crime and Thew’s connection to the victims.
