Indiana State Police Provide Update on Orange County Deputy Injured in Shooting
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Indiana State Police (ISP) has shared an update regarding Orange County Deputy Zac Andry, who was critically injured in a shooting during the early hours of January 3.
Deputy Andry had stopped to check on an abandoned vehicle at the intersection of US Highway 150 and State Road 56. ISP reports that the vehicle’s driver, identified as Austin Schepers, shot Andry four times, including once in the head, before fleeing the scene. This initiated a two-day manhunt.
Schepers’ vehicle was later discovered in Orangeville. A woman, allegedly present with him at the time of the shooting, was found in nearby woods. Police stated that charges against her are being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
On January 4, Schepers was located in Louisville, where he was shot and killed during a confrontation with officers.
Deputy Andry remains in critical but stable condition at the University of Louisville Hospital. As of January 9, he is still sedated and on a ventilator in intensive care. ISP noted that doctors and specialists remain optimistic about his recovery, expressing satisfaction with his resilience and determination.
