Two pedestrians died after being struck by cars involved in a crash near a 7-Eleven in Lemon Grove on New Year’s Day. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were trying to cross Broadway at around 11:17 a.m. when the collision occurred at Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue.
According to officials, the two pedestrians were crossing the street when they were hit by two cars. Both individuals died from their injuries.
The drivers and passengers of the vehicles involved in the crash were taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger of a silver Prius had minor injuries, while the driver of a grey Acura suffered major injuries.
A witness who spoke to reporters said the driver who caused the crash was driving erratically just before the incident. Another local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described the intersection as being dangerous.
Sheriff’s deputies were on the scene for several hours, gathering evidence and taking pictures to help with the investigation. During this time, the intersection of Buena Vista and Broadway was closed for the investigation. It reopened shortly before 9 p.m. as the clean-up was completed.The authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
