Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, billionaire philanthropist George Soros, and renowned actor-director Denzel Washington are among the distinguished individuals set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in a White House ceremony on Saturday.
The prestigious award will be presented by President Joe Biden, recognizing the recipients for their exceptional contributions to American society and global welfare. Clinton, Soros, and Washington are among 19 individuals to be honored for their significant roles in politics, civil rights, science, entertainment, and humanitarian efforts.
The awardees have been recognized for making remarkable contributions to advancing U.S. values, peace, and the prosperity of others, both in the U.S. and worldwide. Clinton’s dedication to public service, Soros’ philanthropic work, and Washington’s contributions to arts and social justice will be celebrated during the ceremony.
In addition to Clinton, Soros, and Washington, the Medal of Freedom will be awarded posthumously to several influential figures, including civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer and former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.
Prominent philanthropists, athletes, and activists—such as celebrity chef José Andrés and U2’s Bono—will also receive the honor for their commitment to societal causes, while sports legends like Lionel Messi and Magic Johnson, as well as renowned entertainment figures like Michael J. Fox, will join the esteemed group of honorees.
