Saints and NFL Pledge $1 Million to Support Victims of New Orleans Attack
The New Orleans Saints and the NFL announced on Saturday a $1 million donation to support victims and families affected by the tragic truck ramming attack on New Year’s Day in New Orleans. The incident on Bourbon Street claimed the lives of 14 people and left dozens injured, deeply impacting the local community.
In a heartfelt statement, Saints owner Gayle Benson expressed her sorrow for those affected. “Our community has experienced an unimaginable tragedy, and our collective hearts are broken as we mourn for the victims and survivors of this New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans,” Benson said.
The Saints have partnered with the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) and United Way to allocate $500,000 of the donation. These funds will be directed to organizations actively providing assistance to victims and their families, ensuring resources are delivered where they are most needed.
The NFL Foundation, the league’s philanthropic branch, has pledged to match the Saints’ contribution with an additional $500,000. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell extended his support to the New Orleans community, stating, “The NFL is committed to standing with the resilient community of New Orleans during this difficult time.”
Efforts to provide both immediate and long-term assistance to the victims are already underway, with a focus on emotional, financial, and physical recovery.
This donation highlights the enduring commitment of the Saints, the NFL, and its affiliates to their communities, especially during moments of tragedy. The combined $1 million contribution is expected to help support vital recovery efforts, as well as programs that address the victims’ ongoing needs.
The outpouring of support from organizations and individuals across the nation reflects the spirit of unity in times of adversity, offering hope to those who are grieving and striving to rebuild.
