A serious crash occurred in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, on the morning of January 20, involving an 18-year-old teen from Advance. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the accident took place around noon, approximately one mile west of Scott City on Route AB.
The young driver was traveling west when, for an unknown reason, his passenger vehicle crossed the centerline of the road and collided with the trailer of an oncoming semi-truck. Fortunately, the semi-truck driver, a 70-year-old man from Chaffee, was unharmed in the crash. Although the truck sustained minor damage, the driver was not injured.
In contrast, the teen driver sustained serious injuries in the crash. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported him to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment. The teen’s vehicle was severely damaged and deemed a total loss following the crash.
MSHP reported that both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to the truck driver’s lack of injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
This accident highlights the importance of safe driving practices and seat belt use for all individuals on the road. The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, though no further details have been provided at this time.
